Cataracts

A cataract is a clouding of the natural lens in the eye, causing blurry and hazy vision. Cataracts can develop slowly over time and are more common in people over the age of 40. Other symptoms can include sensitivity to light and glare, double vision in one eye, and fading or yellowing of colors.

An optometrist can diagnose a cataract through a comprehensive eye exam and measure visual acuity, depth perception, and the extent of cloudiness in the lens. An optometrist can also monitor the progression of the cataract and provide therapy to help improve vision and manage symptoms.

Initial treatment for a cataract may include glasses or contact lenses, brighter lighting, anti-glare sunglasses, or magnifying lenses. In more advanced cases, surgery may be necessary to remove the cloudy lens and replace it with an artificial lens.

Simon can provide guidance and support to help improve vision and maintain good eye health. In addition, he can refer you to a specialist for cataract surgery if necessary.
